Charlottetown’s got roundabout fever

Apparently PEI has a fever, and the only prescription is more roundabouts.

PEI is getting five – FIVE! – roundabouts, four of which will be in Charlottetown, two of which will be on Riverside Drive.  The first is opens today at the corner of Allen Street and Mount Edward Road…let’s just say, this should be interesting. All I can envision are drivers entering the roundabout, then panicking because they didn’t take the lessons at the Charlottetown Mall (why or why didn’t I take the lessons!?!), then going in circles trying to figure out how to get out the damn thing.  In a word, it’ll be hilarious.  Dangerous, but still hilarious.

Officials say these roundabouts are supposed to provide a safer environment for motorists and pedestrians, but that probably won’t happen right away.  Does anyone else foresee long line-ups even getting access to the roundabout?  I’d say a lot of Island drivers will be more cautious than usual and stop rather than yield to get in, causing more painful, insanity-causing waiting periods.  Yay.  Can’t wait to see the 5 o’clock rush on that one.

Thursday’s winner Kim Roach battled through horrendous traffic to pick up her prize – a $50 Gift Card for the Murphy Group of Restaurants.  Now that’s what I call dedication!

And here is Friday’s winner, Kate McKenna.  Kate wasted no time picking up her $50 Gift Certificate to Aveda Senses.  And could you blame her?  She opted for the pampering and has her appointment already booked! No time like the present for a little pampering.
